TWO WEEK PLAN
My Two Week Plan consists of the studies of four directors: Wes Anderson, Greta Gerwig, Tim Burton, and Quentin Tarantino, who provide new boundaries and ideas to the film industry. The technique and uniqueness of every director’s productions are what makes them stylistically stand out. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be focusing on a few that personally stand out to me. These styles in film are really impactful to how I view production making and it influences what I'll be working towards in the future.
WES ANDERSON
Wes Anderson provides a unique stylization that makes his work memorable and stand out amongst others. Focusing on his films, you can point out many of his noticeable details. This starts with his cinematography, by creating lines in the scene that are precisely straight, and using along lenses to help support this cinematography. Wes Anderson uses a lens with a 40mm anamorphic, 27mm focal length. The importance of the lines used in these scenes also work with the symmetry balance in the frame. Also the usage of bright colors, working with a color scheme that reflects them moods or tone the scene is trying to convey. Multiple color palettes are provided in each movie and they are unique to the themes being portrayed. Wes Anderson’s work is very unique and hard to compare to the work of others.
GRETA GERWIG
Tim Burton has a very individual style that can be recognized almost anywhere because of it's individuality and gothic style. Most of his productions are produced with the contrast of very boring, perfect, or plain settings; and they are contrasted with bright colors, bigger themes, and that of the unnatural. He's released many famous movies to this day, some including Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
He focuses and emphasizes gothic features and strongly used punk-rock styles in his early productions, which were very noticeable to the viewer. He also portrays his visuals very strongly, using the same contrast between light and dark, "good and evil", etc. Tim Burton impacted the film industry with his uniquely gothic individuality towards his films and what he offered to the industry that no body else truly had before.
QUENTIN TARANTINO
Quentin Tarantino plays a very memorable part in the film industry, as a director, screenwriter, film critic, and actor. He's made his impact in film since the 1990's, becoming known for his violence and criminal style films. His writing style is also very apparent, something that makes his stylistic shots blend together into his specific art style and something noticeable. Thrill, comedy, and horror, all makeup the specialty of his movies and make the names as iconic as they are. Kill Bill, Once Upon A Time Hollywood, Pulp Fiction, and many more.
7.2 SUMMARY
I made myself multiple goals for this week to benefit both my blog viewers and myself on the importance of directors styles and what they do for the film industry. I gathered information on all four of the directors, finding out both old and lots of new information on them. This information went towards the instagram account I created to track my process. My biggest accomplishment was the personal growth of my knowledge related to these directors. Without acknowledgment, these artists impact not only film as a whole, but my personal creations and styles. If I could do one thing better, I would change the list of people that I studied, and picked a group of directors that I had never heard of before.
